SVSHP Board/Chairperson Meeting Minutes

AGENDA

1.     President’s Call to Order and Roll Call – Pierre Del Prato

Present: Tony Angulo, Sylvia Banzon, Brigitte Chiu, Pierre Del Prato, Tammy Egger, Stacy Knox, Teresa Liston-Crain, Braden Lynch, Robert Mowers, Maria Serpa, Amy Tam

3.     Secretary’s Comments – Amy Tam

Newsletter will continue to be posted on website.  Paper version can be mailed upon request. 

 

4.     Treasurer’s Report – Robert Mowers

a.      2006 Budget

Ø     The Board approved the 2005 Calendar year closing budget.

Ø     Treasurer recommended that committees provide a complete budget for their events.

Ø     Installation banquet budgeted expense was decreased from $3000 to $2000.

Ø     The CSHP 2006 Seminar hospitality budgeted expense set at $1000.

Ø     Poison Prevention budget recommendations made.

Ø     Motion to change budgeted amount for SVSHP website from $300 to $150 – Passed.

Ø     Leadership breakfast line item retained at $100.

Ø     Legislative day or other legislative activity sponsorship may be considered in the future.  Last year, SVSHP was asked to support a local legislator.  Discussion about contract/affiliate agreement between SVSHP and CSHP.  Line item to stay.

 

Budget was passed as amended. 

Approve budget will be posted to website and updated monthly.

 

b.      Method for future appropriation of funds for non-budget items

5.     Activities/Projects

            a.      Poison Prevention – Brigitte Chiu

Statistics:  SVSHP group went to 10 schools.  Nine schools participated in poster contest. Twenty-seven presenters with 50% UOP students.  Posters judged and will be posted at Franklin Library with another possible site at the Galleria.  Posters will list first name, grade, and school.  Posters will be available for viewing until mid-April.  Work by Kathy Marquardt this year praised.  PR Chair (Shal) – Issue press release to Sacramento Bee or local newspapers after event.

 

b.         Stone Lake Health Fair (Elk Grove) – Shalini Lynch

            Date tentative.  Will provide an invitation to SVPhA to be sent to join.

c.               Industry Night – Teresa Liston-Crain

Ø     Opportunity to provide a President’s address for getting candidates interested for board/chair positions.

Ø     Proposal for slide show for prior SVSHP activities (Poison Prevention, Stone Lake, etc.)

Ø     Possible location – Embassy Suites

d.         Technician Event – Sylvia Banzon

      Purpose is to recognize the technician segment of SVSHP.  Tech chair will explore ideas to bring techs together-CE, social, etc.

 

e.      CSHP Seminar 2006 Planning-Terry Nishizaki

6.     Continuing Education (CE) Programs – Tammy Egger and Andrew Lee

            a.   SVSHP Programming

Ø      Numerous CE programs arranged, but awaiting checks for most of them.

Ø      Potential CE topics/speakers:

Anemia talk-Manny Saltiel

Actelion-Rob Lee Allen

William Yee-Insulin Nova

Sanofi Aventis/GSK-Bill Dager-DVT

Forest-CV risk, depression. 

Astra Zeneca-Mowers

Pfizer-CE

 

b.   Joint SVSHP-SVPhA Program -- Pierre Del Prato

      Group agreed for Pierre to contact SVPhA to join in on Abbott CE program on April 27th at Firehouse Restaurant.  Info to follow once flyer available.

 

c.       CE accreditation – Stacey Knox

New CE provider is being sought by CSHP to contain costs (part of Spotlight program). California Accreditation Pharmaceutical Education (CAPE) fees are higher this year for SVSHP to provide CE.  No audits thus far.

 

7.     Membership – Teresa Liston-Crain

                  a.   CHSP Regional Chapter President’s Meeting (RCPM), 3/18/06 – Braden Lynch

      b.   Recruitment – Calling for renewals for SVSHP to be arranged. Maria Serpa to send list of renewal calls.

      c.      Technicians – Sylvia Banzon

      d.      Students

      e.   Membership Survey to determine needs/expectations – Braden to talk to Sara at CSHP for ideas, surveys, give-away incentives.

8.     Legislative Update – Robert Mowers

a.   Tech-check-Tech Board of Pharmacy (BOP) proposed regulation.  Hosp based side only for Pyxis/ward stock activities.  Expanded career path for technicians. Board of Pharmacy mtg 4/26/06 open to everyone. Seven hours CE available.

 

      b.      CPhA Legislative Day – April 5th

9.     IT Report – Ray Brooks

New logo suggestions welcomed.

 

10.Old Business

a.      Nominations Committee support for President-Elect

      Discussed possibility of SVSHP Pharmacist of Year (POY) chosen by

      group of previous SVSHP POYs.

11.New Business

a.   Pharmacist of the Year nominations process

      May 1st Deadline: CSHP Fellow

      June 1st Deadline: CSHP Pharmacist of the Year and CSHP Distinguished Service Award (DSA).

SVSHP to co-nominate person for DSA with GGSHP.

     

b.   SVSHP Vision for 2006-Pierre Del Prato

            Establish co-operative relationship with SVPhA.

            Support for President to pursue the new Liaison position between SVSHP

            and SVPhA.

 

c.      Date for next meeting set.  May 10,  2006.  Same place.  Members

      welcome.
